Help & FAQ

Answers to common questions about ReaderNext for Android.

Getting started

How do I add books?

Tap Add in the Library and choose files, or pick a folder: new books you put in it are added by themselves. You can also share a file to ReaderNext from your file manager, email or chat app. ReaderNext copies each book into its own private storage, so it keeps working if the original moves.

Where is the welcome book?

A short guide called “Welcome to ReaderNext” is added to your library the first time you open the app. You can open it again any time in Settings → Help → Welcome book.

Why won’t a book open?

Books copy-protected by their store (DRM) can’t be opened by any independent reader. ReaderNext also doesn’t support DjVu, or comics packed as RAR or 7-Zip (CBR, CB7); convert those to CBZ. If a DRM-free file still fails, it may be damaged; try opening it in another app to check.

Listening

Which voices can I use?

ReaderNext uses the text-to-speech engine installed on your phone, usually Speech Services by Google. To get more or better voices, open Android Settings → System → Languages → Text-to-speech output, and install voice data for your language.

Listening stops when the screen turns off

Listening with the screen off or in other apps is part of ReaderNext Pro. Some phones also stop background apps to save battery; if Pro listening stops, allow ReaderNext to run in the background in Android’s battery settings.

A name is read wrongly

With Pro, add it to the pronunciation dictionary in Settings → Listening → Pronunciation, and write how it should sound.

Sync and backups

How do I move my library to a new phone?

In Settings → Backup, save a backup file and restore it on the new phone. If your phone’s own backup is on, your reading places, highlights, notes, shelves and stats also come back by themselves (book files aren’t included; add the books again and they open where you left off). Android’s phone-to-phone transfer can copy the whole library.

How does sync work without an account?

With Pro, choose a sync folder or create a sync file, for example in Google Drive or another cloud drive app, on each device. ReaderNext writes your places, bookmarks, highlights, notes and shelves there and reads the other devices’ changes. We never see it: the folder or file is in your own storage.

ReaderNext Pro

How do I cancel my subscription?

Open the Google Play Store app, tap your profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → ReaderNext, then Cancel. In ReaderNext you can also go to Settings → Manage subscription. Uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription. Pro stays active until the end of the period you have paid for.

Will I be charged after the free trial?

If your plan includes a free trial, it turns into a paid subscription unless you cancel before the trial ends. Google Play reminds you before it ends.

I bought Pro but it isn’t showing

Make sure the phone is signed in to the Google account you used to buy it, then tap Settings → Restore purchases. Lifetime purchases and active subscriptions come back on every Android device with that account.

Can I get a refund?

Purchases are handled by Google Play, so refunds follow Google Play’s refund policy. You can request one from your Google Play order history or at play.google.com.

Privacy and ads

Does ReaderNext upload my books?

No. Books, documents, notes and saved articles stay on your phone. Read our privacy policy for the few times the app goes online.

Where do I change my ad consent?

In the free version, open Settings → Privacy → Privacy choices (shown where consent is required). ReaderNext Pro has no ads.

What is “Report this answer”?

Under every on-device AI answer there is a Report button. If an answer is offensive, harmful or wrong, you can send it to us with a reason. You see exactly what is sent before you send it. It never includes the book, the passage or your question.

Still need help? Our contact details are in the privacy policy. Please don’t send us your books; we never need them.
